On the one hand, SEGRO has announced the acquisition of an 8-hectare plot of land in Getafe, for the development of a 46,000 m2 logistics warehouse. It is strategically located in the "Puerta Mayor-Los Gavilanes" Business and Logistics Park, a relatively new location 14 km south of Madrid, along the A4 motorway, Madrid – Andalusia and direct access to the M-50.

This logistically strategic area is home to large multinational companies such as Decathlon, CostCo and Amazon, but there is a relative lack of buildings over 40,000m2 in the Madrid market, despite strong demand for large units this year. The logistics warehouse works will begin this semester in response to a market need.

On the other hand, SEGRO has acquired a new property in Sant Esteve Sesrovires, the land consists of 8 hectares, located 35 kilometers from the center of the city of Barcelona. Sant Esteve Sesrovires is at the corner of two highways, the A2 and the A7, which go from Barcelona to Madrid, a strategic communication enclave. Barcelona is an area with a shortage of modern, high-quality warehouses, for this reason, SEGRO will proceed with the total construction of 51,000 m2, which meets the environmental and technological requirements to carry out the activity of the clients successfully.

While the development and financing will be completed in 2 phases during 2018/2019, works on the first phase of 29,000 m2 are expected to start at the beginning of the first quarter of 2018. This project coincides with the construction of a warehouse of 20,000 m2 in Martorelles, which will be completed in the summer and available for sale.

“After a successful start since September 2015, SEGRO continues its development in the Spanish market. These new acquisitions are fully in line with our strategy focused on key locations in Spain. We will develop some Class A buildings in these dynamic enclaves where we see a lack of modern platforms, taking into account criteria of environmental responsibility”, commented David Alcázar, director of SEGRO Spain. In addition, he adds that "the buildings we build have a high added value, because we are convinced that we can accompany our clients in the development of their activity and thus contribute to meeting their business objectives."

With these two new acquisitions, SEGRO, in its bid to expand its presence in Spain, is positioned as one of the important investors in the Spanish logistics market with a portfolio of 255,000 m2. SEGRO continues to focus on the high quality of the buildings and prioritizing strategic locations to create a portfolio of warehouses for distribution and privileged urban logistics, creating spaces with high added value for both large and SMEs.
