What is a data centre?

Data centres are facilities used to store and distribute the data that we rely on everyday. They provide the core infrastructure that underpins all digital activity across government, business and communities; and enable our way of life including smartphone use, sending emails, on-line shopping, catching a train, or booking a GP appointment.
