SEGRO worked closely with Havering Council, Job Centre Plus and Havering College to develop the scheme, as well as contributing £40,000 towards it. Since its launch, it has already helped over 40 local residents gain jobs and access training opportunities. To celebrate the success of Havering Works so far and to formally launch it, Havering Council, with the support of SEGRO, are holding an event at the Council on the 12th December bringing together local stakeholders and customers to mark this milestone.

Havering Works offers free support for local residents looking to get back to work or explore future career opportunities. The scheme offers access to jobs, training and employment support services through a confidential one-to-one assessment, guidance from a qualified mentor, job coaching and mentoring, job search assistance and support once individuals are in work.

The aim is to ensure that Havering residents have well developed skills and bespoke employment opportunities across the borough arising from local developments, such as SEGRO Park Rainham.

Through the scheme, nine local residents have secured employment with retail giant, Tesco, and a further seven have found employment elsewhere. More than 40 have also taken part in training services provided by the scheme.

Neil Impiazzi, Partnership Development Director, SEGRO, said:

“It’s important to us to work with local residents around our sites to ensure that they have access to employment opportunities. We’re thrilled that our funding has helped to support more than 50 locals to find employment opportunities and we look forward to working with many more.”

Amanda Montague, Manager, Havering Works, said:

“Havering Works is a brilliant scheme and we are pleased that with SEGRO’s contribution we were able to create it. It will work with local residents, empowering them with essential skills, qualifications and access to training, jobs, apprenticeships and further education. Being able to work with a developer like SEGRO to tackle unemployment is truly rewarding and is already benefitting the area.”

SEGRO Park Rainham is a new industrial park in Havering that has been delivered as part of a partnership between SEGRO and the Mayor of London to redevelop vacant industrial land across five sites in East London. The scheme has the potential to create 4,000 direct jobs. 845 jobs will be created on the completion of SEGRO Park Newham and SEGRO Park Rainham.
