21 local charities and community organisations focussed on tackling homelessness and improving employment skills were selected by SEGRO’s Charity Committee and employees were encouraged to select an organisation to support. Employees spent the day supporting the local communities as well as working with colleagues from different areas of the business. In total, over 1300 hours were donated to volunteering.

Yin Bowers, SEGRO employee said:

“I always look forward to SEGRO’s Day of Giving, as it is a great opportunity to give back to my community and work alongside colleagues who I usually wouldn’t work with on a normal working day. I am so happy that I had the chance to spend a day helping those who need it most in my community.”

Now in its third year, highlights of the 2018 Day of Giving include:

• MAPIS, Bracknell
SEGRO employees came together to measure, label, iron and steam donated shirts and suits to ensure the clothes are ready to hand out to their clients. MAPIS works with unemployed and disadvantaged men, many with a history of homelessness and substance abuse.

• Slough Aspire, Slough
A group of SEGRO employees attended Slough Aspire, a skills and training centre on the Slough Trading Estate. Employees helped students from the local girls school with CV writing and practicing their interview skills.

• Acton Homeless Concern, London
Acton Homeless Concern run a day centre providing food, clothing and friendship to the homeless community in West London. SEGRO employees spent the day helping out with food preparation, service, making tea and coffee, clearing up and being there to have a chat with anyone who needed it.

• Diakonie, Dusseldorf
A group of SEGRO employees in Dusseldorf visited an elderly people’s home to support those suffering with dementia, paint garden furniture and take residents at the care home for walks.

• Children Friends Society, Warsaw
The team returned to the Children Friends Society, for the fourth year in a row, for a day of gardening and working together to build a greenhouse. The charity helps children from difficult environments.

• Klokanek, Prague
The team visited Klokanek in Hostivice, just outside of Prague, to garden and tidy up the home. Klokanek homes children that are at risk.

David Sleath, Chief Executive, SEGRO said:

“The annual ‘SEGRO Day of Giving’ is a great way of giving back to our local communities and we are proud to be associated with so many worthy charities and donate our time to projects that really make a difference to the local communities in which we work.”
